Tipping in Restaurants
When you’re dining out in Canada, a 15-20% tip on the pre-tax total is expected. You can tip more if your server was particularly attentive but 15% should be the absolute baseline.
If you’re paying at the counter, you’ll often run into the now somewhat-infamous tipping tablet which asks you to select from predetermined tip amounts. Don’t let the tablet dictate your tip - adjust it according to the level of service you receive.
You can usually tip via card or cash. If you prefer cash, leave it on the table before you leave.
